First Visit
We are always excited about meeting new patients during their first visit to our office. Your initial appointment will consist of a thorough examination and a discussion of potential treatment options. This important 30-minute visit will give us insight into your orthodontic needs. We know your time is valuable, so to expedite treatment, we may also reserve time following the exam for diagnostic records. This additional appointment will last approximately one hour.
During the initial examination for each patient, Dr. Dillon will address the following questions that cover the basics of orthodontic treatment. We encourage you to ask questions as well.
- Is there a condition that orthodontics can address?
- Is treatment needed now or should treatment be delayed until appropriate growth, tooth eruption or other factors have occurred?
- What treatment procedures will be used to correct the problem?
- Do any permanent teeth need to be removed?
- How long will treatment take?
- How much will it cost?
- What are my payment options?
- A treatment fee estimate will be given to you in writing at the end of this Initial Appointment.
It is imperative to analyze each patient’s specific needs, because in-depth planning leads to superior results and higher patient satisfaction. Therefore, orthodontic records will be subsequently made. This will be explained to you at the initial appointment. We insist that our patients leave the office with a clear understanding of their specific needs, what the treatment will consist of and how long it will take. Also, we will answer any additional questions.
Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your first visit:
- The paperwork we send to you prior to your visit and if applicable any transfer records you may have from a previous orthodontist
Frequently Asked Questions
What happens at the first orthodontist visit?
Your first orthodontist visit at Dillon American Orthodontic Care is a free consultation. Dr. Dillon examines your teeth, bite, and jaw, reviews any needed X-rays or scans, and walks you through his findings, your treatment options, and a full cost estimate. No treatment is performed at this visit and there is no obligation to proceed.
What to expect at the orthodontic consultation in terms of timing?
Plan for 60 to 90 minutes for your first appointment. This covers the clinical examination, diagnostic records, and the consultation discussion with Dr. Dillon including the treatment plan and cost breakdown. If you are bringing multiple family members, we can often schedule back-to-back evaluations to make one trip count.
Do I need a referral from my dentist?
No referral is required. You can contact our Landstuhl office directly to schedule your complimentary first orthodontist visit. If your dentist has flagged a concern or you have recent X-rays, bringing them is helpful but not required.
What should I bring to the first appointment?
Bring your insurance card, military ID and TRICARE sponsor information if applicable, your German insurance card if relevant, any recent dental X-rays, and a list of current medications. For children, a parent or legal guardian must be present to participate in the treatment discussion.
Will I get a treatment plan and cost estimate the same day?
Yes. What to expect at your orthodontic consultation here is a complete treatment recommendation and detailed cost breakdown, including insurance coverage and your estimated out-of-pocket costs, before you leave. No follow-up visits just to find out the price.
Is a virtual consultation available?
Yes. For families who have just received PCS orders to the Ramstein area and want to start the process before arrival, we offer virtual consultations. A brief video call allows Dr. Dillon to review photos of your teeth and answer initial questions before your first orthodontist visit in person.
