Orthodontic Treatment for Teens

Change your smile
Without changing your lifestylePIZZA, POPCORN … NO PROBLEM!

Invisalign is a series of removable and customized aligners that gradually shift your teeth into the desired positions. The aligners are worn like mouth guards over your teeth and are virtually invisible to the naked eye. No one will know you are experiencing orthodontic treatment since there are no metal brackets involved. The aligners are replaced about every two weeks. Because the aligners are removable, you don’t have to adjust your diet to accommodate treatment, and hygiene is easier. These are just a few of the many reasons adults love Invisalign treatment so much.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best age for braces for teens?

Most teen orthodontics begins between ages 11 and 14, once most permanent teeth have erupted. The best age for braces depends on your teen’s individual development, not a fixed number. Early evaluation by age seven means Dr. Dillon can identify the ideal window and avoid starting too early or too late.

How long will my teen wear braces?

Most braces for teens treatment at our Landstuhl practice runs 18 to 24 months. More complex cases may reach 30 months and simpler cases can be shorter. A specific timeline is provided at the consultation based on your teen’s actual teeth and bite.

Can my teen get Invisalign instead of braces?

Invisalign Teen is a strong option for motivated teenagers with suitable cases. It includes built-in compliance indicators and free replacement aligners. Dr. Dillon assesses candidacy honestly and will not recommend clear aligners when fixed teen orthodontics would produce a better clinical result.

Will braces affect sports or musical instruments?

Braces do not prevent sports, but a mouthguard is recommended for contact activities. Musicians, particularly brass and woodwind players, adapt within a few weeks. If this matters for your teen, mention it at the consultation and Dr. Dillon will address it specifically.

What do we do if a bracket or wire breaks?

Call our office as soon as possible. We accommodate urgent appointments for broken appliances. For a wire that is poking, a small piece of orthodontic wax over the sharp end provides temporary relief until we see your teen.

Will my teen need a retainer after braces?

Yes. Retention is the final phase of all orthodontic treatment. Dr. Dillon fits retainers at the completion of treatment and explains the recommended wear schedule so your teen’s result stays permanent.
